Book Passage Assignment

I really don't have any favorite books to exclusively talk about to a group of people. I haven't necessarily had much experience reading many books. Some of my favorite books although are the Hunger Games series(not the movies though), Divergent series(same thing as before), and an attempt to read many other books but I could never get into them. Some of my favorite stand-alone books are "The Program" and "The Naturals". Sometimes I like to kick back and relax with a nice book, but because I have so many things that are also going on in my life, It is a very difficult time.
As I am late with this assignment, I don't have any passages from any books. But I do know that if I had a book on hand, I could write some sort of meaningful passage with it. Thanks for reading.

Wife Swap and WWYD Differences!

This was my email sent across the computer multiverse to Sunny from QingDao University in China.

              Dear Sunny,

Wow! My class just finished watching the episodes of What Would You Do and Wife Swap and I just have to say how incredible it was to experience those two shows. The one with the male sexual predator really caught my eye in What Would You Do because of how everybody reacted. I suppose that I really don't see many people so outspoken these days.

After we finished watching Wife Swap we had some time to discuss about it in class. I have never seen my class become so opinionated!! It was a really fun time, and I would like to do it over again. It was very interesting because of how the, "Laundry Volcano" got taken care of. There were some things that America would do the same in the aspect of watching Wife Swap. How would you relate to that episode?

This culture swap assignment was a really fun assignment to do and share with you guys! I've really enjoyed the company that you have offered to me as a person. Anyways, must get going though. I hope you write back with how you responded to the episodes! I'll watch for an email from you!

                                                                                         Sincerely,
                                                                                               Kevin Lewis

Pictures From the Adventure of Scavenging!!!

Something I would call beautiful is my beautiful girlfriend Lauretta. She’s not just beautiful and nice looking, but you can actually see the inside of her and see how beautiful she is there as well.

This is actually a picture taking 2 prompts at once. “Something to remind me of Parkview” and “Someone that makes you laugh or smile.” We actually don’t honestly know if he’s telling us the real truth half of the time, but he’s usually there when you don’t need him.

This, my friends, is a Bowling Ball. By the name of the “Unhinged,” this is my round object. I always try to incorporate bowling in half of my projects because I am a very avid bowler. My average is about 203 score per game, and I intend to raise it over the years.

MSU Exchange Student Visit to Parkview!!

Image result for qingdao university

The Color posts sent to China to exchange with their students was one thing, but whenever I figured out they were coming here to Parkview, I was ecstatic. To be able to meet someone that has come from almost completely across the globe was amazing. Although they didn't fly all of the way out here as they just drove on a bus here form Missouri State, It was still an amazing sight to see when they would script out their characters. I learned that we are all different, but we also have plenty of similarities. I learned on the day they came how to say "Confused" in Chinese. Although I can't remember how to anymore, it was a sight to see. Our exchange student, as in the group with me, Jessie, and Bailey, was Doudou. And yes, you do pronounce it like the bird. And yes, that is how she explained it to us. She said and I'll quote, "It's so much more beautiful here!" I would agree, but there are ways in which China is beautiful. She is spending a year at Missouri State University for her major in Wine-Making. How cool is that? To major in wine making.
My group took them on a tour of Parkview High School. First, starting off inside of the Library, since that is where we met. Then, touring out the double doors to the right, where we saw the Courtyard and passed by some advertisements that Parkview students post around the school. Key Club, Wrestling, and some others were on the bulletin board. Then, we walked to the Art Hallway, looking at the masks and other paintings that were posted as well. Then, we went to the Photography dark room, and she flipped out! She was so excited to be in the room as I don't think she's ever seen one. I hadn't either at that point so I was waiting for her to ask questions. We then walked into the ASL room where they were doing some independent work on interpreting their songs into ASL format. We then ran out of time and walked through the courtyard and relaxed in the open spring air.
I know that this was not a sanctioned class lesson, but It was such a wonderful experience. I wish I were here next year so I could possibly take the class again to see what next years students are like as well. Although I don't have any pictures of them with me or visa versa, they did take a picture on their phone of us all in a group together. It was a tremendous experience and I hope that next year, they redo and visit us again.

                "Sunset Glow"
                 -K.L.

They were good friends, Kate and Jim. They ran together, played together, and were really close. One night, they sat together under the sky, watching the sun fall. As it approached the horizon, the glow was absolutely unbearable. They had to look away, to shield themselves from the hot, bright, summer glow. When the night reached it's peak in the sunset, Jim took Kate in his arms and rolled down the mountain. They laughed and held each other as they fell on the hot grass, together, down the mountain. Once they rolled halfway, Jim looked over at the sun and lost his grip with Kate and she was rolling quicker. Jim was able to stop himself, and hold on the side of the mountain, but Kate continued to fall. "Kate!" Jim cried out with his voice a higher pitch, but she didn't stop falling. He could see her clawing and gripping the ground with all of her might, but nothing could work. She fell faster and faster down the mountain. Next to rocks and over caves, hitting the ground hard after the fall from the overpasses. She slides now, approaching the end, with her body twisted and broken in ways unimaginable. Jim looked down the mountain, seeing a dark orange color, the color of the sunset. The sunset blood spilled from Kate's body, pouring onto the brown, dusty ground. He wept and cried at the top of the mountain, then, he fell down with her. "Kate.. Kate.. Kate.." he repeated as he fell and sprayed his sunset glow all over the grass next to Kate's. The moon and stars shined over them, at the bottom of the mountain.

A Sonata of Words

I am choosing to write my object essay over my violin. I have had my current violin that I play now, “Clairice,” for 3 years. Ever since my 5th grade year, I have always been interested in playing some kind of musical instrument. To be completely honest, I now regret choosing the violin. If you have ever heard the cello play in the background of a wonderful sonata by the famous Mozart, you can never beat the amazing flowing that the cello can perform. With my violin, I can change the way a piece of music sounds in less than a second. Maybe at first, I start with a nice and slow Introduction, playing the melody with ease. Just like a car driving on the highway. Strolling along quickly. Then… all of the sudden… there’s a car that is on the wrong side of the road. Driving at 110 mph. The violin starts to become quicker. The melody becomes harder and faster, Making the scene feel even more intense.

Then, a pause.

A 10 second pause while everyone in the audience is hanging on the edge of their seat, waiting to know what happened to the cars that were in the accident. A small voice pops out from the violin, a soft and quiet trickle from the highest string. Softly increasing in volume, but not too loud, just to show that the ones in the cars are still there. Then, another pause. A sudden stop and end to a beautiful piece of music. One of my most favorite pieces is Kol Nidrei by the famous Bruch. There is no other way to show a skill that is all out moving and special other than Kol Nidre.

But, enough about that, I want to talk about my violin. I started playing in 5th grade with a school owned instrument and I had the privilege to be taught by an amazing teacher. Then, I got my own violin from Hoover and I never would have been happier. I practiced with my violin day and night, all of the scales that I knew how to do, and now I’m first chair in the advanced orchestra. It is an amazing honor to be shown as the “best” violinist at Parkview High School. I have never really had any private lessons, but I did have one done with someone who’s name I can’t remember. It was nice to get a lesson from someone, but it was also really aggravating. I am one of those people who don’t really like to listen to what others have to say about me whenever I am wrong. All that he really wanted to do was help, I know. But, it seemed like he didn’t like everything. I played a part of a song, he said, “Wait! Why are you holding your bow like that?!”

“Uhh… because that’s how I was taught to?”

Anyways, I hold my bow different from most people, who cares? Honestly, if I can play the notes right and make it sound like music, I’m happy with that! There are plenty of violinists better than me, I get that. I’m really not a cocky person when it comes to playing the violin. But whenever I’m playing sports or something other than relaxing music, you can’t stop me.

Anyways, I really enjoy playing the violin. I remember back in 7th grade whenever me and Kyle would always play music together. He’s my brother by the way. I remember way back when, we would look for songs on the internet and see that it was for flute and violin. I guess it was really the way me and him bonded throughout the years of bickering and fighting. Recently, I just picked up the Ocarina. I know how to play some scales and that is pretty much about it. But, violin has been my life for so long and I can’t imagine living without it.
